FACTORY INFORMATION

When in the San Francisco Bay Area, you are cordially invited to visit us! You can tour our factory, sample our fine chocolates, and learn about how chocolate is made. You can also have a delicious meal featuring Scharffen Berger chocolate after your tour at Café Cacao which is located at our factory as well! For café info, click here.

 

We have three types of factory tours available to suit your needs:

  • Free Public Tours
  • Private Group Tours
  • A Virtual Factory Tour

FREE PUBLIC TOURS
Learn About Chocolate and Chocolate Making

We offer programs daily to learn about chocolate and how we make it. These hour-long programs are free and open to the public.

The first part of the program includes a presentation about the history of cacao, how and where cacao is grown and processed, the history of Scharffen Berger Chocolate Maker, and a tasting of Scharffen Berger chocolates. There is plenty of time for questions and answers.

The second part of the program is a brief walking tour of our factory.

Tour Guidelines

  • Reservations are required. If your desired tour time is already full, we keep a waiting list. Walk-ins are accepted only if room is available on the scheduled tour.
  • Arrive at least 10 minutes before your tour is scheduled to begin.
  • Please wear closed-toed shoes for safety reasons.
  • Children must be eight years or older to participate.
  • There is a limit of 35 people per group on the public tours. Private tours can be arranged by contacting 510-981-4066 or sending an email to tours@scharffenberger.com.

 

PRIVATE GROUP TOURS
Private group tours are available by reservation only.

These tours carry a $35 fee, which secures a tour guide, your private tour time, and $1 gift certificates for each person in your group (limit 40) redeemable in our gift shop after your tour.

SAVE SOME GAS, TAKE PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION!

Scharffen Berger is accessible by public transportation but getting here requires some patience, and planning ahead is recommended.

To find schedules for Bay Area Rapid Transit, please visit bart.gov, or use The BART Quick Planner to the right to find schedules by date and time. The closest station to the Berkeley factory is Ashby.

To get from the Ashby BART station to our factory, you can take the #9 AC Transit bus Westbound.  The bus leaves approximately every half hour from the corner of Ashby Ave. and Martin Luther King Jr. Way. The bus stop is just north of the Ashby station. The #9 bus will drop you off on the same corner as our factory: 7th St. and Heinz Ave. The trip is about ten minutes.
